Power And Vision For The Young

When respect and esteem for oneself is low, everything is a struggle. We lack the confidence necessary for good relationships and success in our work and studies.

What undermines us above all is a poor self-image fuelled by the belief that I am not good enough or I never measure up or I’m bad. These beliefs fill us with feelings of fear, worry and anxiety, sadness, discouragement and depression, and the confusion of not knowing who we are.

Everything is scarce, especially what we need most, namely, love, trust, motivation and brainpower. When resources are scarce the result is that everything is hard, often so hard that I can’t do this, that or the other. These negatives create a dreadfully boxed-in world, a prison that seems to offer no escape.

The Abundance Prayer offers a powerful alternative to this negative experience of life. Daily practice creates a space free of negative beliefs and feelings. The confusion of not being good enough and of not knowing who we are is replaced by the experience of the wonder of our being and the miracle of God with us. This loving God gives us an abundance of what we need to respond positively to life as it occurs.

Fear, worry and discouragement give way to love, confidence and self-esteem. Its hard and I can’t are replaced by ‘Its an opportunity’ and ‘I can’. I can respond to the opportunity because my experience is that God is with me giving me an abundance of what I need.

‘I came, ‘ said Christ, ‘that you may have life and have it in abundance.’ As we create the sacred space, Christ gives us what he came to give us and what he desires most to give us. ‘Ask and you shall receive’ consists of creating space free of ‘I’m bad’, ‘Its hard’ and ‘I can’t’, allowing Christ to give us of his abundance.

All the difference: What will make all the difference is the constant practice of the prayer, not out of obligation but because it is a privilege and gift. It is what will give vision and power, meaning and purpose to our life and our future.

A gift to oneself:

  1. Listen to the Abundance Prayer first thing in the morning and last thing at night until one is familiar enough to make one’s own of the prayer.

  2. Before study, hold text books and subjects in the sacred space, picturing the divine light lifting the darkness and difficulties, and feeling God’s loving energy flowing to them.

  3. Whenever we see a need or a difficulty we hold it in the sacred space, picturing Jesus and the light of his love, and feeling the divine energy flowing freely to the person, situation, fear or difficulty.

‘Glory be to him,

whose power working in us,

can do infinitely more

than we could ever ask or imagine.’
